Create and configure instance

Before you create a dynamic display block instance you have to enable the News item content type and the News items view for the Dynamic display block module. You do this on the settings page of the Dynamic display block module.

Path to dynamic display block settings page:
  1. Navigate to Administer > Site configuration > Dynamic display block.
  2. Click the Settings tab.

Enable News item content type and News items view.

  1. Select the checkbox next to: News item under Content types.
  2. Select the checkbox next to: views - News item slideshow under blocks.
  3. Click Save configuration button.

Create Dynamic display block instance of the News items view.

Path to dynamic display block instance page:

  1. Navigate to Administer > Site configuration > Dynamic display block.
  2. Click the Instance tab.

Create instance.

  1. Type a unique instance title ddblock-News item slideshow in the Instance title textfield.
  2. Select views - News item slideshow in the Block type.
  3. Click the Add Instance button.

Path to Dynamic display block configuration page:

  1. Navigate to Administer > Site configuration > Dynamic display block in the admin menu.
  2. Click the Configure block link of the ddblock-News item slideshow block.

Note: There are two options to configure a block instance.

  • Administer > Site configuration > Dynamic display block in the admin menu
  • Administer > Site building > Blocks in the admin menu.

In the Block specific settings fieldset the following can be set:

  • Block title
  • Image cache preset settings
  • Content container settings
  • Dynamic display block settings
  • Pager settings
  • Custom jQuery Cycle Plugin Settings
  • Dynamic display block advanced settings
  • Slide text settings

To override the default block title:

  1. Type a title in the Block title field, <none> for no block title.

Information:

The advanced dynamic display block slideshow can get content from the
News item content type and views block News items you have made.

Note: All settings have default values. You only have to override the settings if you want other settings. You can find further information at the buttom of every fieldset.

 

Display method

  1. Choose the Cycleblock radio button to use the jQuery cycle plugin functionality.

Note: Check the Use advanced settings checkbox. This way you can use templates and CSS to customize your advanced Dynamic display block slideshow.
When you use the advanced settings you can choose a template.

You can use the following templates:

  • Upright10---number pager template
  • Upright20---prev/next pager template
  • Upright30---custom pager with text template
  • Upright40---custom pager with image template
  • Upright50---custom pager with text and images template
  • Custom------When selecting the custom template, the custom template textfield shows up to fill in the name of your own template to be used.

Imagecache preset settings

Information: For more information how the imagecache module works, see the imagecache module tutorial.

When you check the Use imagecache presets checkbox, you can use defined imagecache presets for the images you want to use in an advanced slideshow.

Content container settings

  1. Type a content container of a slide, in the upright templates the slides are in a <div class="slide"> container. In this case you type div.slide for the content container, which is already set by default.

You can use the following settings:

  1. Transition effect
  2. Speed
  3. Timeout
  4. Sort order
  5. Pause
  6. Next
  7. Use pager

Note: Don't enable the next setting if you want to enable users to go to the nodeview of a slide with e.g. a read more... button.

Pager settings

Note: Check the Use pager checkbox to add a pager to an advanced Dynamic display block slideshow. When Use pager is checked the pager settings are shown.

You can use the following settings:

  1. Pager---Number pager, prev/next pager and custom pager are the options you can choose as pager type, but these pager options still depend on the template you have selected, e.g Upright10 template is only for the number pager, upright20 is prev/next pager, and upright30, 40 and 50 are belong to custom pager. With a custom template you can use all pager types.
  2. Pager container---Type a pager container of a pager-item (in the upright templates the pager-items are in a <div class="custom-pager-item"> container). In this case you type .custom-pager-item for the pager container, which is already set by default.
  3. Pager position---You can choose between bottom and top to select for the pager position. Top and bottom position are only set for upright10-50 themes. If you use custom template then you can use a lot of options for the pager position which depends on the theme layout you are going to use.
  4. Pager event---You can choose between click and mouseover to select a slide for the pager.

Custom jQuery Cycle Plugin Settings

Information:
If you want more advanced settings for the transition you can type them
in the Custom options textarea of the Custom jQuery Cycle Plugin Settings fieldset.

Note: You have to use valid JSON syntax. Keys and stringvalues are enclosed in double quotes (").
If you choose to fill in the Custom options the Dynamic display block settings will be overriden.

Note: Check the Use jQuery effects to use effects for the slide text in the image. By checking this option Slide text settings fieldset is shown.

You can use the following settings:

  1. Slide text container---Type a slide text container of a slide-text item. (in the upright templates the slide text items are in a <div class="slide-text"> container.) In this case you type div.slide-text for the slide text container, which is already set by default.
  2. Slide text position---You can choose Top, Right, Bottom, or Left for the position of the slide text.
  3. Before effect---Options to choose for the Before effect of the slide text.
  4. Speed before effect---The time of speed for the Before effect.
  5. After effect---Options to choose for the After effect of the slide text.
  6. Speed after effect---The time of speed for the After effect.

Note: Click Submit button to save the configuration you just made.
